RiverofJobs: Why it’s Essential for Job Searchers

I have been searching for jobs since 1978 and I probably have learned more about this than most living humans. I started by sending physical letters, with some success. But as my resume grew, a lot of recruiters said it was getting too long and no one would believe I could do all that.

So in 2002 or so, I got this sort of format from my friend John Stromgren:

Your Needs

My Qualifications

in a two-column chart, with the needs on the left and the qualifications on the right. This worked very well through about 2023, but then I seemingly aged out of tech jobs. I recently started applying for Senior Management and Board jobs, and trying YouTube, all of which seem to allow someone my age to keep working.

A lot of the companies recruiting use these two highly illegal sites Workday and ICIMS, which take much too long to work with … last night I spent 6.5 hours to apply for 9 jobs. This is unsustainable, for me and for the industry as a whole.

Please join me in writing your elected representatives to get Workday and ICIMS shut down.

Thanks,

Mark McWiggins
