Why an Electric Car is Like a Toothbrush

I used to think plugging a modern electric car into a 110v standard outlet was a fool’s errand … how long would it take to fully charge the car? Days, I thought.

I had a friend who charged his Tesla on 110v and wondered when he said he didn’t install 220v in his garage because he “didn’t want to spend the money” … after spending $60000 on this car.

Now we’re living in a rental house we rent from some very nice people right next door and there’s a 110v plug right outside the front door.

I started plugging in our car, a Subaru Solterra 2023, to the 110v outlet and … it takes not days but just 30 hours total, so while I don’t think it will be charged yet when we go out to get into it the next few minutes, it should be nearly so and ready to go …

It’s a lot like plugging in a toothbrush where you have access to the same bathroom everyplace at once.
